South Scotland Solar Ltd is a local team installing solar panels in Scotland for homes and small businesses. We focus on practical systems that are designed properly, installed carefully, and built to last. Every project is planned around the property and the customer’s real energy use, not a one-size-fits-all package.

We’re MCS certified and work to recognised standards, but what matters most to us is doing the job right. From the first visit to installation and aftercare, you deal with the same in-house team. No pressure, no jargon, just clear advice and solid workmanship.

Most of our work comes from local recommendations across the Scottish Borders and surrounding areas. We rely on our reputation, so we make sure every installation is something we’re proud to put our name on.

Where We Operate

We’re based in South Scotland and install solar panels across the Scottish Borders and nearby areas. Most of our work is in and around towns like Galashiels, Selkirk, Melrose, Hawick and Peebles, and we also cover Edinburgh and Midlothian.

Because we’re local, we’re never travelling from the other side of the country to do installs. We know the area, the housing, and the conditions that solar panels in Scotland need to handle. That helps us design systems that make sense for the property and last long term.

We’d had designs and quotes from several installers but only South Scotland designed a system would provide emergency power backup despite asking all suppliers. Their price was competitive too. They specified a Sigenergy system which we’d not heard of but is excellent with a modular design and very good app based control. It lets us optimise use of battery, solar panels and tariffs. Despite being their first Signenergy install and ours being an unusual site, everything went smoothly. Callum and his team are friendly and approachable. There’s no hard sell sales push that I’ve experienced with other firms. So we’re very happy to recommend them - spend time thinking about what you want and discuss it with them. Following my recent solar and battery installation, I am very happy to recommend South Scotland Solar Ltd.  Calum & Liam were easy to deal with, and they really helped me better understand my requirements. They supplied, installed and commissioned the complete system, and carried out all the associated paperwork necessary for the grid connection and export. I started receiving export payments in under 4 weeks, which I understand is quick. I've had a keen interest in using solar & battery for a few years, and after a lot of investigating and exploring options and costs, I finally took the plunge.  There are lots of enticing offerings around, but I wanted to deal with an established local company with a proven history and good reviews. So I contacted South Scotland Solar Ltd. for a proposal and explained that I did not want a visit from a salesperson but wanted to discuss with someone with the skill/knowledge and practical experience.  Liam visited and I explained what I wanted and we had a good and varied chat around all associated aspects. Liam carried out a roof survey, checking the mains electric setup, battery location etc., and a few days later I received a detailed design proposal and costs. Interestingly, their calculated payback time matched mine, but was calculated on an entirely different basis.  I use a smart "Time of Use" tariff where my average electric unit cost is significantly below the standard rate, so potentially I had a longer payback, but by importing when cheap and exporting later the sums made sense. I am very happy with the system's performance and with the service received from South Scotland Solar Ltd.

Do Solar Panels work in Scotland?

Yes! Despite the country’s climate, solar panels work perfectly and are highly efficient in Scotland. It’s a common misconception that if you don’t get sunny weather, a solar panel system won’t work. The fact is you don’t need bright sunshine to get great generation from your system. We recently installed a 5.8kWp system in the Scottish Borders, that had a daily generation of 12.5kWh in early January, this is a higher output than a typical households daily energy use!

How can I be sure my solar panels are working and reducing my energy bills?

Every system we install includes a monitoring app you can access from your phone. It shows live performance data and easy-to-read graphs, so you can see exactly how much energy your system is generating and how it changes over time.This lets you track output, spot trends, and understand how your solar panels are contributing to lower electricity use. If you ever have questions about performance, our team is always available to review the data with you and offer advice.

Is battery storage worth it?

It depends on how and when you use energy. If your home is empty during the day, battery storage is usually a strong investment. It stores the energy your panels generate while you’re out, so you can use it later in the evening when demand is higher.

I have an Electric Vehicle, is a Solar PV System a good match?
