Really pleased we went with Callum, professional, friendly, and excellent service, which he delivered on time, with no interruptions to us (as we work from home). His quote was the most competitive, and spent the most time assessing our needs. He then explained the different options and which one he thought was best for our energy consumption. Callum gives ongoing support to help guide us through the app and work out the best ways to maximise our energy and when to sell back to the grid, a complicated system made easy by having his knowledge and support.. I would highly recommend.

Normally I don't leave reviews but felt compelled to do so for South Scotland Solar. On looking for a company to provide solar panels and a battery, I was recommended South Scotland Solar by several people. I asked 3 companies for quotes and Callum was the only person that came when he said he would and was extremely thorough, spending much longer than the other companies, going over every detail and checking all the aspects of the property. I was impressed straight away with his manner and professionalism and was very surprised how competitive his quote was when it arrived. The detail he provided was excellent and was by far the best presented and easiest to understand of all the quotes. I engaged Callum's services and he gave me a clear timescale. It was a slightly unusual install in a large Summerhouse with a non-standard roof. Prior to installation, some of my requirements changed. Callum took this in his stride and his communication was excellent, repyling to my messages very quickly. He came up with a new plan based on my changed requirements, specifically tailored for me. When it came to the install time, he arrived on time, when he said he would and I can testify to how hard he worked throughout. He is clearly a hard-working person. The standard of his work was first class from start to finish. and cleaned up after himself. In addition to this, he was a genuinely nice person, talking about his young family and sharing a joke or two. It really was a pleasure to have him in my home. In terms of the install, I couldn't be happier and it's exceeded what I had hoped for. It's great to see how much I'm saving! I have no hesitation in recommending Callum, he is top of his class, a decent person, and is clearly passionate about his work and business. If you're reading this and pondering who to go with, honestly, don't look any further, you really won't be disappointed.

Steps For Successful Solar Panel Installation

Ensuring a professional installation of your solar panel system is vital to maximise its effectiveness and the efficiency of your battery storage unit. A well-installed system not only ensures optimal safety but also protects your significant investment.

Installing solar panels is a significant financial commitment that requires careful planning to achieve peak performance and efficiency. Take into account the following essential factors for a successful solar panel installation:

Above all, ensure that the installation is conducted by solar panel installers approved by MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme). South Scotland Solar Ltd holds MCS certification number NAP-69293.

It’s important to obtain at least three quotes for solar installation. Some companies may overcharge, and having multiple quotes allows you to make a comparison and identify any potential discrepancies in pricing.

Perform a comprehensive site assessment to evaluate the available sunlight, potential shading problems from nearby trees or buildings, and identify the optimal location and angle for solar panel installation. Factors such as the orientation and tilt of the panels significantly impact their efficiency.

Assess your energy consumption habits to ascertain the suitable size for your solar energy system. Take into account both your present and future energy requirements to guarantee that the system is appropriately sized.

Establish a budget for your solar panel installation, taking into account both the initial expenses and the potential long-term savings on energy bills. Research available financing options and government incentives to make the investment more financially viable.

Select solar panels from reputable manufacturers known for their high quality. Take into account factors like efficiency, warranty, and durability, especially given Scotland’s climate. While high-quality panels might come with a higher initial cost, they often provide superior performance and reliability in the long run.

Choose a suitable inverter that converts the DC electricity generated by the panels into AC electricity for your home use. Take into consideration factors such as efficiency, compatibility with your panels, and the ability to integrate with energy storage solutions, if necessary.

Determine whether you require a solar battery storage system to store surplus energy for use during periods of low sunlight or power outages. Energy storage solutions can improve your energy independence and resilience.

Secure the required permits and approvals from local authorities. Familiarise yourself with local regulations, building codes, and homeowners’ association guidelines pertaining to solar panel installations.

Develop a routine maintenance plan, which includes cleaning the panels, inspecting for any damage, and monitoring the system’s performance. Our PV systems are equipped with monitoring tools that enable you to monitor energy production and identify potential issues.

Familiarise yourself with the warranties offered by the solar panel manufacturer, inverter manufacturer, solar battery manufacturer, and the installation company.

Take into account the environmental impact of your solar panel selection, including the materials utilised, recycling options, and the carbon footprint associated with the manufacturing process.

By thoughtfully evaluating these factors and seeking advice from solar energy experts, you can guarantee a successful and effective solar panel installation that is customised to meet your specific requirements and situation.

This company is a certified business who installs solar energy panels of the highest quality. They also provide information on battery installation, selling your excess electricity to the grid and also a complete and comprehensive contract sent to you ahead of any signed contract. Callum Shields is the company owner and installer of the above and works with Euan Tait a certified electrical technician on the full installation. He uses the best equipment on the market and is very efficient and tidy in his work. He leaves nothing to chance and gives a personal touch to his work. My installation was smooth and tidy and done in his specified time frame. He also downloaded the APP onto my phone to show how much electricity I was making, a true easy going family man with his client’s interests foremost in his mind. My initial contact was through word of mouth and was given a FREE estimate to browse through at my leisure, with any questions answered clearly, there was no sales pressure whatsoever, just clear information right from the beginning. First class work and after installation contact was five star. I fully recommend this chap if you are considering solar installation.

F.A.Q About Solar Panel Installation

Feel free to reach out to us if you have any further inquiries regarding your solar panel installation.

The space required for solar panels varies based on your energy needs and panel efficiency. Typically, a residential solar panel system needs approximately 100-400 square feet of roof space per kilowatt of installed capacity.

The installation duration usually ranges from a few days to a couple of weeks, contingent upon the size and complexity of the solar panel system. Weather conditions and permit approvals can influence the timeline as well.

Rest assured, we will maintain clear communication with you both after booking and throughout the installation process to keep you well-informed.

The permits and paperwork necessary for solar panel installation differ based on the location. In Scotland, especially for residential solar panel installations, it is uncommon to need planning permission.

A trusted MCS installer like us can assist you in handling the paperwork and acquiring any required planning permission.

Certainly not!

Although it is technically feasible to install solar panels on your own, it is strongly advised to engage a professional installer. This ensures that your panels are appropriately commissioned and your product warranty remains intact. Solar panel installation entails electrical work, structural analysis, and adherence to local regulations. Hiring a licensed MCS installer guarantees that the system is secure, efficient, and qualifies for any available incentives.

Indeed, numerous governments provide incentives and grants to encourage the adoption of solar energy. These incentives can substantially lower the initial expenses associated with solar panel installation.

If you qualify, solar panel grants and loans can be obtained through Home Energy Scotland, and we will assist you throughout the application process.

Certainly, we regularly undertake installations to upgrade customers solar PV systems.

The possibility of an upgrade varies based on the age and condition of the panels, and it’s best evaluated on a case-by-case basis. For more detailed information, kindly email us or give us a call to initiate a discussion.

Certainly, we offer the installation of solar battery storage systems to complement existing solar panels owned by individuals.
